1953 – Riegel hall was constructed

1953 to 1964 – primary residence for Riegel Mill Textile Corporation superintendent

1985 – AFTER RIEGEL MILL CLOSED IN THE MID-1980S, SC REPURPOSED RIEGEL HALL AS A HALFWAY HOUSE FOR YOUNG MEN FROM THE BURTON CENTER

2000 – aROUND 2000, it WAS PURCHASED BY DOT HENDERSON HIPPS who RESTORED THE RESIDENCE

2014 – Received the Architectural and Historical Preservation and Restoration Award from the Greenwood County Historical Society

2021 – aFTER DOT’S PASSING IN 2021, HER SON LARRY HENDERSON INHERITED RIEGEL HALL

2022 – Riegel hall opened its doors as an event venue

Nestled in Ware Shoals, South Carolina, Riegel Hall stands as a stately Georgian-style colonial estate with a rich history spanning seven decades. Built in 1953, this historic residence originally served as the corporate home for the superintendent of the Riegel Mill, which played a vital role
in the local textile industry. The home’s grandeur is reflected in its four spacious bedrooms, five bathrooms, large living and dining rooms, a charming patio room, and an expansive outdoor patio. Riegel Hall retains much of its mid-century elegance, showcasing original hardwood
floors, intricate molding, and carefully crafted built-ins that highlight the timeless quality of its architecture.

After the closure of the Riegel Mill in the mid-1980s, the state of South Carolina repurposed Riegel Hall as a halfway house for young men from the Burton Center, providing a transitional residence during a period of change for the community.

Around 2000, the property found new life under the ownership of Dot Henderson Hipps. A nurse by profession and a celebrated antique dealer and appraiser, Dot acquired Riegel Hall from the state and carefully restored its original features. Her vision turned Riegel Hall into more than a residence; it became the hub for her antique shop and appraisal office. Dot’s love for the home and its history made her a cherished figure in Ware Shoals and the surrounding Tri-county area. She frequently received requests to host weddings, receptions, and various gatherings at Riegel Hall, finding joy in sharing its beauty with the community.

In 2014, the Greenwood County Historical Society honored Riegel Hall with an Architectural and Historical Restoration award.

After Dot’s passing in 2021, her son Larry inherited Riegel Hall and felt inspired to continue her legacy. In honor of her dream to see Riegel Hall as a place of celebration, Larry entered a partnership to open it officially as an event venue. Today, Riegel Hall welcomes public and private gatherings, offering a unique setting for weddings, receptions, and specialty events that blend historic charm with Southern hospitality.

Upon arrival, the grand foyer welcomes guests. It has a beautiful staircase and a picturesque window overlooking the back patio and lawn. To the left of the foyer is a formal dining room. It’s perfect for hosting elegant gatherings. It will accommodate your guests in style while inviting them to mingle. To the right of the foyer is a cozy sitting room. It is ideal for intimate gatherings and conversations. Next to the sitting room is the patio room. It has a bright, airy charm. It provides a space for guests to enjoy views of the gardens while celebrating your occasion.

Exclusive Private Suites

Riegel Hall’s private suites are a calm, comfy retreat for the bridal party on the event day. The bridal suite, with an attached bath, is a relaxing space for the bride and her party to prepare in privacy. The groom’s room, with its attached bath, provides a spacious area for the groom and his groomsmen to prepare with ease. Also, a cozy guest room is available for added convenience. It also has an attached bath. It ensures everyone has a space to enjoy the day in comfort and style.

Event Venue Owner

Owner, Larry Henderson works as staff for Riegel Hall Event Venue. As staff, he works to ensure that guests have a pleasant and safe experience throughout their time at the venue. Larry performs a variety of tasks as needed such as providing customer service, answering questions, setting up and breaking down event spaces, cleaning and restocking the venue, providing security and safety measures, and more. He strives to ensure guests have an enjoyable experience.

Partner and Event Venue Manager

Becky Sain is a partner at Riegel Hall. She is also the Event Venue Manager. She manages the logistics of all events. This includes organizing the set-up and coordinating with contractors like wedding planners, caterers, florists, and photographers. She ensures all necessary equipment is available. It is also her role to handle any unexpected issues during the event. She is organized and detail-oriented. She also has a strong customer service focus. This ensures the event proceeds without issues and guests enjoy a memorable experience.

Wedding Planner

Wedding Planner/Creator, LeNita Painter, loves all things wedding! She enjoys art, music, flowers, and crafts. It was only natural for her to become a wedding planner. LeNita has been creating beautiful weddings for more than nine years. Over the years, she has received lots of appreciation and compliments for her work. Each wedding and/or reception has been the wedding couple’s vision come to life. She will work to make your vision come to life.

Décor Specialist

Décor Specialist, Nancy Self, is creative and knowledgeable. She can create stunning designs that make the wedding venue beautiful and memorable. She works with the wedding planner to choose a fitting color palette and décor for the wedding’s theme and style. Nancy also knows how to place furniture, flowers, and lights.
